Western approach

(An unspoiled and exciting wilderness route rich in Flora and Fauna).

We highly recommend this route because you have almost 100% to concur the top roof of Africa

Day 1

TINGA TINGA WEST KILIMANJARO

After having your English / American breakfast. Get transferred to Tinga Tinga base Camp.

         What to do?

  •              - Lunch
  •             - Briefing and Kit checking.
  •           -Early evening a short walk to the village
  •           -Visit one of the Maasai Boma (Option).

 

       Dinner and Overnight at the Camp.

 

Day 2

RAIN FOREST BIG TREE CAMP

After having a sumptuous early breakfast drive straight to Londorosi Entrance gate.

       What to do?   

  •                 -Check in
  •                 -Get transferred to Lemosho (your starting point).
  •                 -Meet your crew (introduction).
  •                 - Warm up trek to your hot lunch point.
  •                 - Keep your eyes open for birds and  the leaf eating monkeys
  •                                                     “black and white colobus monkey”
  •              - Afternoon walking through dense rainforest.
  •              - Reach your first camp about 9,000ft / 274m above sea level.

 

         Dinner and Overnight at the Big Tree Camp.                  Approx. 4hrs ascend.

 

Day 3
SHIRA ONE ( SHIRA CALDERA).

After having your breakfast start hiking to Shira One.

        What to do?

  •                 -Get used to the climbing conditions.
  •                 - Walk via a savanna of tall grasses and volcanic rocks.
  •                 -Stay at the rarely visited wilderness camp outside the Shira crater.
  •                 - Reach at this camp about 12,000ft / 3,657m above sea level.

 

          Dinner and Overnight at the this beautiful Camp.             Approx. 6hrs ascend. 

                      

Day 4
SHIRA TWO ( SHIRA PLATEAU ).

After enjoying your breakfast proceed to Shira two.

         What to do? 

  •            -Acclimatize to the altitude
  •           -Climb across the Shira Caldera (a high altitude desert plateau).
  •          -Strong hikers may wish to visit Jonsell Point 13, 000ft / 3, 280m. En route.
  •            Jonsell Point is the highest point on the remaining Shira crater.
  •                                  Shira is the third of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic cones.
  •           -Reach your third camp about 12,500ft / 3,810 above sea level.

 

           Dinner and Overnight at Shira two.                               Approx. 6 hrs walk and 5 hrs ascend.

 

 

Day 5
BARRANCO WALL ( SOUTHERN FLANK)

A superb day’s trekking that takes you to southern flank.

           What to do?

  •                     - Valuable altitude acclimatization.
  •                     - Pass down the Great Barranco Valley.
  •                     - Reach the camp at Barranco Wall, the camp having 12,900ft/ 3,900m.
  •                                    only 400ft higher than your previous camp at Shira two.  
  •                       -The camp at Barranco is one of the most spectacular on Kilimanjaro.

 

                 Dinner and Overnight at Barranco camp.                         Approx. 7 to10 hrs ascend.

 

Day 6

KARANGA VALLEY.

          What to do?

  •     -Early morning, start with a climb up the steep  Barranco wall.
  •     - Reach the camp having 13,680ft / 4,170m above sea level
  •                                               an immediate height gain of 700ft.
  •     - Spectacular views of Mount Meru and the plains far below.
  •     - Ascend across the ridges and valleys to Karanga valley. There are optional treks to
  •     - Either visit the first signs of ice or screed walking (Optional)
  •              highly recommended to help with maximizing your altitude acclimatization.
  •     -Evening relaxing.

 

             Dinner and Overnight at the camp.                                       Approx. 4 to 6 hrs ascend.

Day 7
BARAFU RIDGE.

After having your early breakfast

         What to do?

  •      A little bit tough ascending due to altitude.
  •      The temperature gets colder and the landscape more sparse as we near the Camp
  •      Make your way to the Barafu Ridge camp 15,090ft / 4,599m above sea level.

                                             Around 330m higher than your previous camp.

  •     Rest until midnight when you start your final push to attempt the Kilimanjaro summit.
  •     Get prepared for concurring the highest point of Africa.

 

           Dinner and Overnight at the camp.

 

Day 8
SUMMIT DAY.

This is one of the easiest  and happiest day you will experience.

 After having only a cup of tea.

              What to do?

  •    -Start attempting the Kili Summit 19,340ft / 5895 meters.
  •     Magnificent sunrise (never seen before)  at around 0530 inspiring you                          to concur the Kili.
  •     -Reach Stella point only an hour walk to Uhuru Peak.
  •     -Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
  •     -Short  Ceremony at the highest point of Africa, Uhuru Peak.
  •     - Descend to Barafu Camp for lunch.
  •     -Proceed to Millenium camp for a celebratory dinner.

Day 09

DESCEND TO MWEKA GATE.

After having American/English breakfast.

        What to do?   

  • Walk down via the beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate.

                             Is a quite, steep, muddy and rutted wilderness route.

  •  Reach the exit gate
  •  Picnic lunch
  •  Presentation of certificates and triumphant photos.
  • Get transferred to Arusha for a much-welcomed shower and celebratory dinner.

 

                Dinner and Overnight at the Lodge.
